Property Taxes are due on the 1st day of April each year and are assessed by the Department of Natural Resources. Belize’s property tax is considered to be one of the lowest of any of the Commonwealth countries, usually as little as 1.5% or even 1% of the assessed value of your property.

It is normal for buyers to pay approximately 10% of the value of a property at closing. Note: The Stamp Duty rate is 5% on transfers to all Belizean and CARICOM Nationals.

The Qualified Retirement Program (QRP) is an initiative created by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) to facilitate eligible persons, who have met the income requirements, to permanently live, retire and relax in Belize.
